How does LED light therapy work?
The healing and rejuvenating properties of LED light therapy were initially discovered by NASA when they realised that it can repair wounded skin. In fact, LED light therapy is super beneficial and can treat a number of skin concerns, including acne, discolouration, fine lines and wrinkles and many more.
You may be wondering, how exactly can light be beneficial to the skin So, here’s the science: Artificial LED lights send waves deep into the skin’s epidermis and depending which colour light is used a different chemical reaction will be evoked, providing various therapeutical benefits.
The WOW LED light treatment
The great thing about LED light therapy is that it can treat a multitude of skin conditions, or it can simply improve the overall look of your skin particularly if you’re lusting after a brighter, smoother complexion.
The WOW LED light mask is available as a stand-alone treatment, however, it’s also stage four of the full WOW facial®. Directly after the WOW fusion® treatment (microneedling and mesotherapy), the LED mask is used to activate the healing process through stimulation to produce more collagen and improve the blood flow with professional-strength blue, red and green LED lights.
Each light is used to treat a specific skin concern, however they can be mixed to give optimal results. The red light promotes circulation and targets wrecked reticular dermis to stimulate fibroblasts. Red light can also help reduce inflammation and regulate oil production, so it’s ideal to treat chronic acne. The blue light kills acne bacteria, making it perfect for acne prevention. Whilst the green light targets the base of the epidermis and improves pigmentation.
LED light therapy treatments usually last around 20 minutes and are non-invasive: the lights do produce some heat, although there is no burning or damaging of the skin whatsoever, in fact the sensation is actually rather pleasant. There’s no limit to the number of LED light therapy treatments one can have but we usually suggest once a month.
Will I see results from at-home LED light masks?
Whether you try it at home or you decide to have the treatment in clinic or as a part of a full WOW facial®, LED light therapy works. The downfall of at-home masks is that they are not as effective as professional ones, but they can be a great option for bridging the gap between professional appointments. An in-clinic treatment each month alongside a few at-home sessions offer the perfect combination if you are hoping to really transform your skin.
