WOW facial® Glow peel
WOW facial® Glow peel
The high exfoliating properties in this Glow Peel noticeably correct early signs of ageing and visibly improve dullness, rough texture, uneven skin tone and promote a revived complexion for the ultimate #WOWskin appearance.
The WOW fusion® GLOW peel is one of a select handful of peels used in stage two of the WOW facial® – helping to resurface the skin right before the micro-needling stage using the award-winning WOW fusion® device. It’s formulated with a combination of three powerful, yet gentle Alpha-Hydroxy Acids: 20% Mandelic, 15% Lactic, and 10% Citric, which make this peel also suitable for those with sensitive skin.
Why are these AHAs so good for the skin? Here’s a quick breakdown for you:
Mandelic Acid - for gentle exfoliation
Mandelic acid is an Alpha-Hydroxy acid that is derived from bitter almonds which can also be synthetically produced. This particular acid is used extensively in peels, especially those targeted to sensitive skin. We recently talked about the exceptional exfoliating properties of Glycolic Acid: thanks to its tiny molecules, it penetrates faster and deeper into the skin, increasing effectiveness.
Mandelic Acid, on the other hand, has bigger molecules (twice the size of those found in glycolic acid), which means they are slower to penetrate, thus minimising irritation. Mandelic Acid can also help inhibit melanin production, so it’s wonderful to reduce the appearance of age spots and to even the skin tone. Last but not least, its antibacterial properties are brilliant for treating acne-prone skin.
Lactic Acid - to moisturise the skin
It’s a known fact that Cleopatra’s skincare routine supposedly included bathing in milk. The reason for this is likely due to milk’s lactic acid content. Lactic Acid is a Alpha-hydroxy acid naturally derived from dairy products (although nowadays it’s mostly produced synthetically for skincare products). Like all AHAs, Lactic Acid has great exfoliating properties that help remove the “glue” that keeps dead skin cells together, but it’s also one of its kind: it’s the only AHA that can help improve the skin’s moisture factor – meaning that the skin is more hydrated, hence giving that youthful, WOW glow.
Citric Acid - for antioxidant activity
Another great AHA, Citric Acid is naturally found in citrus fruits like lemons, oranges, grapefruits and also berries. Together with the exfoliating properties common to all AHAs, Citric Acid also provides an antioxidant activity: which is why lemon is often squeezed over fruit to keep it from perishing. Citric Acid is a super effective antioxidant that helps fight the effects of external aggressors: this can apply to food, but also to the skin. Antioxidants, by definition, are also anti-inflammatory: high levels of antioxidants help in keep inflammation levels under control, allowing the skin to repair itself and correct visible damage. If this wasn’t enough, Citric Acid is also a brilliant astringent, so it’s ideal for oily skin and enlarged pores.
Ph 2.8 - for a healthy skin barrier
The WOW fusion® GLOW peel has a PH of 2.8 which keeps the skin from becoming too alkaline: this aids to maintain a normal skin barrier function, which is the foundation of a healthy, glowing complexion.
